Nags Head Woods

Nags Head Woods is a 1400-acre maritime forest protected by a line of inland sand ridges.  The habitat is made up of four distinct communities: deciduous forest, swamp forest, shrub forest and inter-dune ponds.  It is home to over 300 species of plants and 50 or more species of birds.  Let’s not forget about the several species of reptiles, amphibians and mammals that live there.  Nags Head Woods offers six different hiking trails that vary in length and difficulty for visitors.
